Many companies such as Reed recruitment (whom I have complained to) insist that your details have a title, Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms, Dr or Prof. I’m more gender ambiguous than anything else and even if I presented as a male or female at any time the problems associated in applying for jobs and then taking a call from an agency is shocking, expectations are really shifted when you answer the phone and they expect a female voice and get a male voice.
If you find this a problem I urge you to contact the company and ask for the title box to be made as not required for the form. It’s a simple thing to do and can save a lot of hassle.
Not only that, I personally feel that titles can lead to discrimination of all sorts without someone even really considering the application on merit. How many employers are secretly looking for a male and discount applications with the title Ms, Miss or Mrs all simply based on what’s between an applicants legs rather than what’s between the ears.
In fact why not remove the title tag all together what purpose does it serve anyone?
